The city runs 240 bike stations. Each station has a screen. The old screen asked for twelve taps before the bike unlocked.
What we changed
We cut the flow to three steps: pick a bike, pay, take the bike. The screen now shows one question at a time. Each button is 72 pixels tall, so a gloved hand can hit it.
Result
The average rental now takes 41 seconds. It took 2 minutes 10 seconds before the change. Support calls about the screen dropped by half.
